Matthew White

Executive Chairman

Matthew White is the Executive Chairman of BW Water. He leads the BW Global Management Team and oversees the company’s global growth strategy.

Formerly the CEO of BW Water, Matthew led the company’s growth from a start-up into an established global water company.

A seasoned veteran in the water industry, Matthew has a strong track record with about 30 years in business development, corporate growth strategy and end-to-end solutions in engineering, technology, construction, and operational support.

Prior to BW Water, Matthew was the Managing Director at H+E Asia. He was also a Commercial Manager at GE Water and Process Technologies.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Chemistry from the University of South Wales, United Kingdom.

Erik Strømsø

Director

Erik Strømsø is the CEO of BW ESS and Managing Director of BW Renewables. He is responsible for scaling BW’s investments in sustainable energy and technologies. He joined BW Group in 2021.

Prior to joining BW Group, Strømsø was a Senior Equity Partner at Pareto Securities, a leading Scandinavian investment bank, with a key focus on the energy and maritime space. He started in Pareto’s equity research department, with an emphasis on the offshore energy space, and subsequently joined the investment banking department, with a maritime and energy focus. In 2014, Strømsø moved to Singapore as Managing Partner for Pareto Securities – Asia Pacific, where he led a team focused on capital markets financing of traditional and renewable energy and infrastructure assets.

Strømsø holds an MSc. in International Management from London School of Economics and a BSc. in Economics and Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School.

Herman Widjaja

Director

Herman Widjaja, a co-founder of BW Water and a seasoned professional with over three decades of expertise in the water and wastewater industry, has overseen business development, process design, project implementation, and successful completion of over 100 regional projects.

As one of the pioneers in the region’s wastewater engineering and process design and the brainchild of the Cyclic Sequencing Activated Sludge (CSAS) process, Herman has provided much needed water and environmental solutions to industry players and municipalities in the region.

Sophie Smith

Director

Sophie Smith joined BW Group in August 2021 as the Chief Human Resources Officer. She is responsible for the people strategy and creating a workplace where our employees feel inspired, fulfilled, and valued to deliver growth for our business. Smith is also a Director at BW Water.

Prior to joining BW Group, Smith worked at Experian, where she most recently held the role of HR Director, Asia Pacific. Originally from the UK, she started her career at Rolls-Royce and moved into HR leadership roles at 3i and NatWest.

Smith graduated from Durham University with a first class honours degree in Geography. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Matthew White

Alan Daza

Americas CEO & Global Vice President of Technology

Alan Daza is the CEO of BW Water Americas (formerly SafBon Water Technology), a subsidiary of BW Water that provides industrial water treatment solutions.

Alan is responsible for business operations and growth in the Americas and MENA regions, overseeing technology development, operations, marketing and sales. Concurrently, he serves as the Global Vice President of Technology, overseeing the company’s investments in the right technologies for market needs.

Prior to BW Water, Alan was the CEO/Technical Director of SafBon Water Technology, and the Vice President of Sales & Business Development for the Americas and Europe at Aquatech International Corporation.

An industry veteran with about 30 years of experience, Alan has a proven track record in North America, Europe, LATAM, MENA & Asia. He has extensive experience in water and wastewater treatment applications for both municipal and industrial markets, in particular the Oil & Gas, Power, Mining and Semiconductor industries.

Alan holds a Bachelor in Applied Science in Chemical Engineering and a Master degree in Engineering Management, both from the University of Ottawa, Canada. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada.

Gethin Thomas

Asia CEO & Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing

Gethin Thomas is the Asia CEO and Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing at BW Water. Gethin is responsible for the company’s corporate growth strategy in Asia and ANZ.

He oversees the end-to-end solutions in engineering, technology, construction, and operational support for the region. Concurrently, he serves as the Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing, ensuring the alignment of sales operations.

Prior to BW Water, Gethin was the Global Corporate Account Director at Solenis and Sales & Service Operations Director at GE Water and Process Technologies. He has over 30 years of experience in sales and marketing, client services, technology and manufacturing.

With a strong focus on Asia, Gethin has dedicated over 18 years to delivering industrial water and wastewater treatment solutions for Asian markets, with a key focus on the Food & Beverage, Power and Petrochemical sectors.

Gethin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Wales, United Kingdom.

Thomas Will

Europe CEO & Global Vice President of Operations

Thomas Will is the Europe CEO and Global Vice President of Operations at BW Water. Thomas is responsible for the company’s growth in Europe, overseeing technology development, operations, marketing and sales for the region.

Concurrently, Thomas serves as the Global Vice President of Operations, ensuring operational excellence worldwide.

Prior to BW Water, Thomas was the Chief Operating Officer at Aquarion AG. He was also the former CEO of H+E GmbH, a leading worldwide technology supplier. Thomas has over 30 years of experience in process water and wastewater treatment applications.

Thomas holds a Graduate Engineer degree in Process Technology from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany.

Anson Tan

Global Chief Financial Officer

Anson Tan is the Global Chief Financial Officer of BW Water. Anson is responsible for the global integration of finance and cash flow planning, project control and IT functions with the regional teams.

Prior to BW Water, Anson was the Group Financial Controller at SIIC Environment Holdings. He was also the former financial controller in several leading water infrastructure and utility companies, including Beijing Enterprises Water Group and Keppel Merlimau Cogen. He has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance and governance, specialising in financial reporting, tax, treasury, mergers and acquisitions.

Anson is a Certified Public Accountant under the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a Graduate Chartered Accountant under the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants. He is also a Chartered Valuer and Appraiser under the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers in Singapore.

Anson holds a Bachelor degree in Professional Accountancy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Aileen Gleißner

Global HR Director

Aileen Gleißner is the Global HR Director at BW Water. As part of the Global Management Team, she is responsible for talent acquisition and development, compensation and benefits, employee experience, HR Operations, and the Company’s continued focus on employee well-being and diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Aileen leads the HR teams from the Americas, Asia and Europe regions and has a key role in integrating BW Water’s acquired businesses.

Prior to BW Water, Aileen was the Global HR Enablement Director at PerkinElmer, a company specialising in laboratory analysis and management. She has also held roles at multinational organisations including BNP Paribas, Cushman & Wakefield, and GE Capital. She has over 20 years of HR experience.

Aileen holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Business from University of Lincoln, UK, a Master of Business Administration in International Business from University of Applied Sciences Anhalt, Germany, and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from the Open University Business School, UK.

Sheldon Sapoznik

President, BioGill

Sheldon Sapoznik is the President of BioGill Global and a member of the global management team at BW Water. He has over 25 years of experience in biological wastewater treatment and discharge solutions for residential and commercial applications.

Prior to his current role, Sheldon was the Vice President of the Americas and Regional Sales Manager. He was also the founder of a consulting and sales firm specialising in onsite Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) wastewater treatment for wineries.

Formerly an Environmental Health Supervisor with Napa County in California’s famed wine country, he served as a department supervisor and subject matter expert on winery wastewater treatment for regulatory agencies from numerous winemaking regions throughout the world.

Sheldon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health from California State University, Northridge. He is also a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) with the State of California, USA.
